WHAT? :haeh:

Sorry, but it sounds like you've an 'out-of-date'-doc.

This year the world diabetes kongress is in Cape Town, South Africa. I suggest your doc should go there to fresh up his knowledge base.

Hey,

well I'm looking into the matter.

I have been a diabetic for 12 years now and as I said never counted a carb in my life.
Ludwig, you ask how I know huw much insulin I take, well I guess I have worked out
how much I need for the average meal portion I eat and then adjust according to fat
or sugar content.

Thats what we were told since '94 with 4 different diabetes doctors...

Ya well, will see what I find out :)

Thanks again :)

Annika

It's a way to handle your bg, but it's definitely not the best way. Just have a look at the One Touch Ultra Smart meter and guess, why there's an option to enter the carb-values...

The best way to handle a bg is to make sure, that it's never over 140 mg/dl (8 mmol/l). And therefore you have to know how many gramm of carb is in your meal and how many insulin does it take to handle it.

It's not your fault, and I think nobody here would think so. It's the fault of doctors who never gave youa correct diabetic-education!

Hi,

I have to agree with Jörg. I was diabetic for 8 years before I found a doctor who helped me to normalise my blood sugar - using carb counting.

To me the carbs entry in SiDiary has become just as important as the actual bg tracking.
If I find abnormal levels after eating I make a note in the remarks field and try to understand certain trends that way.

Carb counting seems like a hassle initially but it becomes second nature very quickly.
The nutritions database in SiDiary is a great help to get you going.
